Creating a "capsule wardrobe" for dolls

This was something I wanted to find, but couldn't, so I'll post my findings here.

Dolls "need" the same kind of clothes people need. That is, people who like to play with dolls and dress them up, want to have the same kind of clothes they would wear themselves. Which means, that you can take any "capsule wardrobe" and follow the list when you plan on clothes for dolls.

The difference is, of course, that your doll doesn't need clothes, because it's just a clump of plastic, it doesn't get cold, or need to cover its nakedness, and it doesn't do things that cause the clothes to get dirty by sweat and so on. So it would be totally fine to give your doll just one outfit, and if it's a nightgown, or a swimming suit, that would be quite all right.

Also, you don't need to think about comfort, washing the clothes, or whether your doll likes what you are putting on it.  (And dolls don't need underwear)

But - as a dolly mommy, I want to give my doll appropriate clothes for nights and days, spring, summer, autumn and winter, feasts and everyday.

So

4-7 tops (+ 1-3 layering tops)
4-6 bottoms (leggings count)
(1-2 dresses)

1-2 season appropriate outside wear (coat, hats, mittens etc.)
3-4 pairs of shoes (of which one is season appropriate outside wear)

1 set of "nice" clothes, for parties aso. (shoes included)

5-6 sets of underwear (or go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...) (include undershirts, panties, and socks)
3-4 sets of night clothes (pajamas, night gown, etc.) + bathrobe, slippers

The "thing" with the "capsule wardrobe" is that the tops and bottoms (and dresses) are designed to be "mix and match". You get more out of a doll's wardrobe, when all the pieces can be combined with each other and are not a special set of clothes that are designed to be used with just each other.

For a doll, one is quite enough to begin with. One top, one bottom, one party dress, one nightgown, one coat...
